The ski resort in the Valley of Astun, in the Pyrenees, has been in service for over three decades. Since the spring of 1970, the resort has been welcoming visitors to the area. In 1975 the resort was named as a Centre of National Touristic Interest, and since then has enjoyed unprecedented growth in visitor numbers. From 1975, Astun invested heavily in instalations and facilities, as well as the general infrastructure around the town, ensuring quality roads were built to enable easy access to the resort. From this moment onwards, with skilifts and equipped slopes, the resort began to function as a ski school and haven!
Since then, numerous restaurants, bars, holiday accommodations have been added to the resort's list of facilities. There have also been extra slopes created to cater for skiers of all levels, from beginners to advanced. All of this development has helped Astun gain nationwide recognition as one of the finest ski resorts in the country, and flanked by Candanchu and Formigal, part of the best skiing area available on the spanish peninsula.
Austun has also been the setting of several important local, national and international ski competitions, and currently welcomes around 300,000 visitors every year. |
